This weekend was a very busy one for members of Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town.  It began on Friday evening with members of the “New Generations” youth committee led by Director Marvin Flax visiting the Rainbow Children’s Home for two hours of reading, mentoring and gaming with the children, engaging in chess, Chinese Checkers and Nintendo WII.  Rotarians Monique Peters, Shanna Simmonds and President Ken Guiste were joined by Tamara Cameron who all enjoyed a warm welcome and an enjoyable evening.

Director Marvin stated that he hoped that Rotary Sunrise could make this a monthly event.

On Saturday morning, members of YEP (Youth Empowerment Program) began a season of soccer coaching led by President Ken and Director Marvin, where the students were put through their paces practicing passing, ball control and ending up with a small sided game. Six students turned out and Coach Ken stated that he did not expect too many more for this first session but hoped that the numbers would grow for this fortnightly event.

On Saturday afternoon, 16 members of the Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town met at a wonderful venue on Beef Island for a club assembly. This was an ideal setting for President Ken, members of his board and club who discussed observations following the previous two months of this Rotary year. The get together enabled all present to plan details for forthcoming events including community projects, fundraising events and how they can work better with the other two clubs in our territory.

President Ken said he felt the weekend was a total success and wanted to thank all those who had invested their time to make our community a better place to live.

The Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town was chartered on 31 March, 2009 with 23 members and has grown to 34 members. The Club meets Tuesdays at 7am at Maria’s By The Sea Hotel.
