ROAD TOWN, Tortola, VI. The Rotary Club Sunrise of Road Town celebrated the appointment of their new president last night at an awards dinner.

The club, aimed at providing community service, particularly fostering literacy in the Territory, honoured its members and appointed its new president during the ceremony at the Long Bay Beach Resort.

After a toast to the Queen and several introductions, former President Monica Ramgeet awarded this year's Paul Harris Fellows. His Excellency Governor David Pearey, Doug Arter, and Mark Stephenson, represented by his wife Kate, accepted their awards. Paul Harris Fellows are donors of $1,000 or more to the Annual Programmes Fund, PolioPlus, or the Humanitarian Grants Programme, or people who have that amount contributed in their name, can be recognized as Paul Harris Fellows. Each new Paul Harris Fellow receives a commemorative certificate and a pin.

Allison Archer was named this year's Rotarian of the Year for her service above and beyond the call of duty for the club.

Several presidential awards were also given, including an award to Ajit George, and the Guiste siblings, Daniel and Claire,  for their outstanding community service efforts and dedication to the club.

"My goals for the coming year are to take our club to the next level and I certainly have some ambitious plans. The community has always been my personal focus," new president Ken Guiste said.
